As you probably know, we’re making some enhancements to Cthulhu Saves the World for the upcoming PC release. These enhancements will be included as a free update to the XBLIG version as well.

Any particular things you’d like us to include in the new version?

  1. I would like:

    – Demonic Frogs

    – Evil Genies

    – Cats with Shotguns

    – a silly quest involving the mutilated head of a wombat, bi-polar disorder and peanut butter.

    – a hidden dungeon set in a dimension unlike anything found in the games setting/theme. Something that sticks out like a sore thumb.

    – Zombie Barack Obama

    – Huge screen filling worms ala Dune

    – Lots more Vampire jokes. Lets urinate all over Twilight and their weirdo pre-teen following.

  2. any new dungeons, bosses, equipment(especially for paws), would be great. Also, please make another rpg! I own breath of death VII and CStW, and they are both amazing. I would be overjoyed if you guys made another great rpg.

  3. It would be cool to unlock Dem and his party as a optional quest. But you would have to beat them in a fight. If you do get them maybe they should start at the level they started in their games?

They could also start with the final equips you find from BoD VII. I think they would have the same level tree from the previous game. It would be cool to see it as a crossover. Even if it doesn’t make sense.

I don’t mind the people requesting Dem but don’t forget Sara,Lita and Erik!

  4. First off, I love the XBIG version (just bought it tonight). Second, I’d really love it if you could add a play time counter (“in game clock”) in the game save (or somewhere else in the in-game menu). It’s just a nice little feature to have in an RPG.

  5. Paws’ armor style works fine, I think.

I would suggest adding enemy status attacks, along with ways of mitigating them. Also even on Hard mode the game becomes a little too easy after a certain point due to elemental and Multi-target attacks combined with Paws/Cthulu’s target-all insanity moves. Some thought into balancing this out to make encounters more varied past midgame could help (Resisting magic generally serves this purpose).

Giving Cthulu a move that would “Devour” insane enemies would be pretty boss.

  6. Personally i’d like to see an ‘Insane mode’ added to the game, where all the enemies are always insane. I’m not quite sure how it would affect the difficulty of the game, but it would be a interesting way of going through the game.

  7. You said PC, does that mean just Windows? Is there any chance it will be ported to Mac too?

  8. DEM! If you add one thing add Dem! He’s by far the best character from BoD and kinda the only thing I miss from it.
(Don’t get me wrong, loved the game Cathulu’s just better in every way) 🙂

  9. An unlockable easy mode, maybe? Kinda like Mega Man Legends 1. You only unlocked it after beating hard mode(Though, maybe that isn’t needed here… Just the idea of unlocking it after beating it). Sort of a way to show the game you’ve mastered it.

I’d like to note I posted this on the Kickstarter page, but I dunno if you guys are monitoring that, so I’m posting it here…

  10. ooooh! ooooh! ooooh! A mode where you can play the game backwards from the end and get weaker with every level. You could lose party members as the game continued And all of the text could be backwards.

  11. I would like the unfinished areas to be finished… I disliked the dungeon out in the middle of nowhere. Please make it Uber-hard with game-breaking equipment as a reward. Also I want the BODVII style readings of bookcases, statues, gravestones, ect.

  12. Well I don’t know how extensive of an enhancement you intend to do (Great game by the way bought it day 1) but a new extra human like character would be pretty cool even if it’s just a optional new character with a side dungeon after beating the main game.

More dialogue for book cases, tombstones, and party chat. Some more optional dungeons would be pretty awesome.

    in closing:
    1. bonus character (even if just optional)
    2. Dialogue for book cases, tombstones and more unique party chat responses
    3. More dungeons optional and non optional.

  13. More optional bosses in optional dungeons. Don’t care if they use the same layout in every dungeon, and even share trash mobs, but would like some really hard optional bosses that, even though you can take out most story bosses in 4 turns, these bosses take many many more. Oh, and some suitable reward for beating them to.

  14. Alrighty, there’s a broken magical attack, yes? But as you said, ONLY if you take the right upgrades.

There is a neat opportunity to combine ideas here. I haven’t gotten too far in the game yet, but I’m hearing word of some unfinished ocean dungeon? Why not complete that, add a new, strong boss at the end of it, and have the reward be a special weapon that defines “forged deep within the city of Rl’yeh using the strongest metals obtainable and imbued with dark magicks so powerful that only Cthulhu himself can wield the blade without succumbing to its madness-inducing aura”.

    …Woo! Tangent.

  15. Yeah, I’d definitely agree with more dialogues. And maybe finding out whoever it was that locked down Cthulu’s power in the first place? I’m not entirely happy with the final ending… but I like the approach taken. Trying to be non-spoilery here since a couple people said they haven’t played it.

There’s already a brokenly powerful attack in the game, if you take the right upgrades. It’s the Dark Spiral Unite ability. Pretty much every trash fight on my normal mode playthrough consisted of “Dark Spiral + Flood = Win”, until Cthulu started to get low on magic. And I mostly aimed him at Melee combat… so yeah.

  16. More text to find on things like the gravestones and bookcases would be a nice touch. A cleaned up inventory screen would be greatly appreciated. While the number of items you acquire is fairly minimal, managing them is a chore that I never looked forward to whenever I got a new piece of gear.

  17. How ’bout a minimap at the bottom of the screen when I’m cruisin’ dungeons. Also, how about a digital cloth map on the Y button menu, or somewhere. Throw in the victory music from breath of death every once in a while.

  18. The ability to hold more than one of a given item – having the items being salable is a nice addition from BoD VII’s “you get gold if you have the item already”, but in CStW, getting a duplicate item actually hurts you.

Dem as a playable character if you defeat him.

And, as Derek suggested, more character-specific abilities.

  19. Heh, I know this is a little far-fetched, but I’d like a rare, game-breaking weapon.

The task to achieve such a weapon would probably have to be obscure or otherwise require fighting an excessively-tough boss, but I’d like the reward to be the ability to kick severe amounts of ass!

  20. Never played the original, as I don’t have a 360, but I do have a somewhat vague request – easter eggs and unlockables for doing certain stuff, etc.

Anything that fits in with the tone of the game would do nicely for unlockables, really – concept art, developer photos / notes, voodoo curses that will make players die in seven days, etc.

I just think it’s always cool to have stuff tucked away as a reward to the people dedicated to exploring every single corner of the game and oddball rewards for doing stuff you’d never think of doing, and added reasons to play the game again. Anything of this sort would be hugely appreciated.

  21. I know it would go against the retro vibe and all, but I would love to see an RPG of this fashion and graphical representation have a sort of multiplayer server where people could import builds in order to duel each other in an “Insanity” world. Its a lot to ask for I know. But hey, its a suggestion, take it for what its worth.

I did back the games call for funding, but I have yet to play it or death 7. So I cant really offer a lot of suggestions as of yet as to what I think should be included, because I dont know what is already there, and I cant play till the PC release cause, well the ole lady got the 360 in the divorce so to speak.

Perhaps a spin off title “Super Cthulu Kart Racing” in order to make fun of the nintendo mascots and such.

Honestly I think that more story and questing is really going to be the meat of any enhanced edition, so the more content you can program the better.

  22. More manga-still cutscenes, and perhaps a map in some of the levels? Some of the dungeons toward the end of the game got real confusing with all the walkways. Still loved the game though!

  23. “Bromide cards” as easter eggs like Lunar had. Not sure what Cthulhu’s sexy pose would be but I’m sure you could come up with something…

  24. PS Shub-Niggurath could totally fit the bill, I loved seeing tons of lovecraftian creatures, it’d be interesting to see a few more make the cut.

  25. I agree about finishing that unfinished cave, if possible throw something in there that’s tougher then the current uber boss. I thought it was sort of easy even on hard mode heh.

  26. Simple interface streamlining: Switch the “New Game” and “Continue” menu selections, so that “Continue” comes up first on loading. Move “save” to the bottom of the action menu.

Make “run” the default movement, to save cramped thumbs, and make “walk” doable by holding down the button.

I really enjoy the environment music, and get sick of it cutting out ever 10 to 20 seconds with battle music that I’ve heard a zillion times. So, have a “turn random encounter battle music off/on” function, so that with battle music “off” it keeps the general theme music going during random battles. I would still have it automatically switch for boss battles.

  27. One of the improvements we’re definitely making is adding humorous text for tombstones, bookshelves, etc.

  28. More things ala the gravestones in BoD7. Those little humourous bits were some of my favorite things in BoD7, and they were a bit lacking in CStW.

  29. Along those same lines you could also fill in the interiors you blocked off. Doesn’t need to be much, but I think it would fill in the game. Like the sailor doors in the port town(s).

  30. More armor for Paws. Being able to sell Dacre’s old staves would be helpful. Also, more character specific abilities would be cool.
