Star Trek: The Next Generation – $44k ($45k goal) with 8 days left.

Dreamcast Worlds – Reached goal of $5k.

The biggest new video game kickstarter in the past few days is for a Homestuck Adventure Game. It’s at $853k ($700k goal) with 26 days left which already places it as one of the top 10 highest grossing video game kickstarters. To be honest, I’ve never heard of Homestuck before now but apparently it’s a rather popular webcomic with a weird sense of humor.

Next up is GUTS, a cross-over between a typical roguelike and a Strategy/RPG. It has a fantastic art style and the screenshots make it look like a lot of fun. I’ve personally wondered many times why people don’t make more roguelikes that involve an entire party and tactical combat so I’d love to see this game get made. It’s at $6k ($60k goal) with 21 days left.

To finish us off, here’s a kickstarter to write a book on how to become a freelance video game journalist. It just met its goal of $7k and has less than 24 hours left to go.

  1. @Dan, yep, I totally agree with you. I fear personal passion may cloud realistic judgement on the project.. I still hope it succeeds – and I don’t just mean that in terms of funding, but rather succeeds in developing a completed product. As is always the case with Kickstarter, we’ll have to wait and see if enough people feel passionate about the project to throw money at it. I’ve had a few messages back and forth with Chris and he seems genuinely passionate and a really friendly guy, so I at least wish him the best of luck; even though I will have removed my pledge because I have a very limited amount of money – and what I can spare is going to the Broken Sword kickstarter. 😉

  2. Arakion looks like it has some interesting concepts, but I think it suffers from having goals too lofty on the project side and too minimal on the fundraising side. For example, it cites using some of the $25,000 to hire help. Even at well-below market rates, that amount of money won’t get you a full time hire for a year. Seeing disconnects like that make it difficult to believe that the project will succeed if funding comes through which in turn makes the decision to fund difficult.
