There wasn’t much in the way of big blockbuster new kickstarters this past week that I noticed so I’d like to take this week’s installment of the kickstarter report to focus on some of the smaller projects that I think look interesting.

First up, we have a mashup between the two classic stories, The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland in the form of The Red Queen of Oz. Take control of Dorothy & Alice in what appears to be a classic adventure game with some light RPG elements. It looks like they’re mostly at the concept art stage (but at least their concept art looks roughly like actual game graphics and is not just pretty shots of the main characters) but I’m a sucker for their source material here so I had to mention it. They’re up to $2k of their $40k goal with 41 days left to go.

Next, we have Full Bore, a 2D puzzle/platformer/exploration game where you explore an underground world as a boar. An attractive pixel art style, a promising-sounding team of developers, and a fun premise (puzzle heavy, non-combat Metroidvania) make this one to watch. They’re currently at just under $2k of their $12.5k goal with 28 days to go.

The Last Door is a 2D horror/adventure title with an art style reminiscent of old Atari games. Inspired by writers like Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft, this episodic horror game series hopes to create an online community that will help to shape and mold future episodes of the game. They’re almost at their goal of £3.8k with £3.2k raised and 7 days to go.

Finally, we have the Nubuwo Winter Bundle is a collection of various videogame inspired music by a variety of composers from around the world. Just a $10 donation gets you almost 200 songs and there are additional awards to be had at higher donation levels. They’re up to $1k of their $8k goal with 12 days left to go.

  1. Hey, thanks for the mention of Full Bore! I’m the lead artist on the project, and we are very excited by the response we have been getting on Kickstarter. Please consider trying our demo, available on the Kickstarter page.

  2. I really like the concept of Red Queen of Oz, but I’m worried about the funding they are looking for. After reading yours and some other articles about kickstarter funding, I can’t help but think they are really lowballing what they will need in order to produce what they are pitching, unless they have other funding sources. I know they have a video for it, but their rewards and stretch goals seem unrealistic. Maybe I’ve just been scared off by the whole kickstarter thing though. The stretch goal for the iOS/Android port seems the most unrealistic, but they are also having a lot of tangible item tiers that is going to really cut into the money they get. Maybe I’m wrong, I wish them luck cause the game looks like it’d be great.
