After a few slow weeks, we finally have a lot to talk about this week.
First up, our high profile kickstarter project is Wildman from Gas Powered Games (Dungeon Siege, Supreme Commander). A mix between Civilization, an RTS, and a MOBA/RPG, Wildman has a bit of everything. They’re betting the future of their company on this title (they’ve stated that they’ve used the majority of their funds to prepare the kickstarter pitch so if this doesn’t go well, they’re in trouble). After a couple of days, they have $168k funding which sounds like a lot but they’re looking for $1.1 million. 28 days left so this could go either way but it’s not off to a promising start.
Next we have, Freedom Planet. This indie game project looks to combine the visuals & speed of the Sonic the Hedgehog series with the action of a Mega Man or Gunstar Heroes. Very nice 16-bit visuals, a well done video, and a demo help to sell the concept. They’re at $5k ($2k goal) with 27 days left to go.
Unwritten: That Which Happened is a turn-based Strategy game that the developer bills as a cross between Civilization and Oregon Trail. In it, you control a nomadic tribe as they make the trek to “God Mountain,” a place of final judgment and potential glory. Make decision and live with the consequences in each randomly generated world. They’re up to $11k raised of their $75k goal with 25 days left to go.
Small World 2 is a kickstarter for a digital version of the popular board game by Days of Wonder (best known for the Ticket to Ride series). I believe Small World is a Strategy War Game (the kickstarter pitch seems to assume that you’re already familiar with the series). They obviously have some diehard fans since they’re up to $52k of their $190k goal with 28 days left to go.
