The big news this week on kickstarter was the Veronica Mars Movie kickstarter which has managed to raise over $3.3 million in about 2 days, breaking all sorts of kickstarter records. I don’t know if it’ll manage to take the #1 all-time slot (currently held by Pebble Watch with $10.2 million) but if not, it’ll probably come close.

As far as new video game kickstarters, this week was pretty quiet.

First up, we have Telepath Tactics, a Strategy/RPG. This is the second attempt this developer has made for a kickstarter for this game and this time, it’s going a lot better. Whereas the previous one failed with $18k raised ($25k goal), this one already has $11k raised after the first day ($15k goal). That’s great momentum so I’m sure this one will make its goal (and I wouldn’t be surprised if it surpasses the previous goal as well).

Next, we have Shovel Knight – an homage to classic 8-bit Action/Platformers like Megaman. The video shows a good amount of gameplay footage and the team is made up of Wayforward alumni so it looks like this is going to be one great game when it’s done. It went up yesterday and has raised $10k of its $75k goal but it still has 29 days left to go so it still has a shot.

That’s it for this week. Next week is PAX East (where we’ll be showing off our new game, Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4) and the week after that is GDC so updates on zeboyd.com will be spotty to non-existent for those 2 weeks. See you after the break!

  1. Welp, Shovel knight has now been announced for Wii U, ask and you shall receive I guess =p Kickstarting.

  2. You know, I am really liking the way that Shovel Knight is looking. I am getting tired though. Not of kickstarter, but of most kickstarter games only being computer. I want to put money on Shovel Knight, but I know that unless it definitively says it is going to a console of some sort, I just can’t bring myself to waste money on yet another pc only game. I have already put a lot of money on pc only games that I will likely never play, and I think I am going to finally have to put a stop to it. I do hope they bring it to the Wii U, heck I hope all the good games make it ot the Wii U. I don’t own a Wii U yet, but it and a 3ds are my next console/handheld choices, and if the kickstarter games go for those platforms too, I will start supporting them again.

Thanks for bringing Shovel Knight to my attention. I will keep an eye on it and see if the developers ever mention console porting as a definitive thing to look forward to.
