A big hitter in the Indie Games Winter Uprising just came out – Chu’s Dynasty. Picture Smash Bros. with gorgeous 2D art, an Asian theme, and time manipulation all for only 240 MS points ($3 USD). You can download it here.

  1. So how many copies needs no be sold in order for them to want to make a sequel? There isnt a place where the public can view the sell charts of indie games?

  2. If your game exceeds 50 MBs, you don’t get the 80 MS point option so 240 MS points was the lowest they could price it.

And of course a sequel is dependent on sales. Nobody’s making a sequel to a game if the first one sold poorly.

  3. This is the first one I’m skipping. I got a lot of jumpy frame rate and only 4 characters so I doubt I’d play it a lot. Maybe if it had more characters or some unlockables but seems like a game I’d grow tired of in half an hour.

  4. Chu’s Dynasty is a fun and nicely polished little fight game. Once you get the hang of the time manipulating moves it has quite a bit of depth to it’s fight mechanics as well. That was three bucks I probably couldn’t have spent better. =)

  5. Why didnt they release it for 80MSPs? It probably would get alot more sells than at its currnet price point. Theres a bunch of games for 80 MSPs that are just as high quality if not higher

    80 MSP with depth
    – I Maed a Game with Zombies (1 of the best games on indie)
    – ZP2KX Fun side shooter with online
    – Zombie Estate , not the prettiest game but its straight classic survival very deep
    – Nuclear Wasteland, 3d FPS arcade L4D clone
    – Apple Jack , over 100 levels of classic platforming
    – Fish Hunter, Very addictive challenging game clone of Feeding frenzy
    – Platformace, Huge platformer, 1 level but its huge & changes depending on skill level
    – Johnny Platfom’s biscuit Romp, over 70 levels of retro platforming
    – Concept car series 2010, Full racing game with multple tracks, cars & modes DEAL

    FREE games
    Doritos Crash Coarse
    Harm’s way
    Aegis Wing

    Jist dont understand the price

  6. I always wanted to play Smash Bros Brawl again, so this is the closest I can come to it. I dont own a Wii, only 360 & dont plan on buying anything else anytime soon.

  7. No online sucks
No Leadboards sucks for indie games

Thats understable, but who can explain why theres only 4 selectable characters in the game? I mean make up for the lack of online by having a 10 fighter roster or something. Anyway havent decided if I will chuck over 240 pts for this game yet. If a sequel is optional depending on sales , Id buy it for the greater good.

  8. Unfortunately MS doesn’t officially include online leaderboards as a feature of Xbox Indie Games; and the only reason we see them in some Indie games is because there is a very wonky work-around that the XNA community has devised to get that functionality in. Ultimately even something that should be basic like an online leaderboard is actually a lot of trouble since it is not an officially supported feature in the Indie game service.

Even so, I feel like it’s nevertheless a very important feature for “high score” style games. I do understand the difficulty and trouble of trying to “hack” in an online leaderboard function though.

Anyway, Chu’s Dynasty looks awesome and I can’t wait to try it out!

  9. Online multiplayer is about the hardest thing you could add to a game so it’s not surprising that most indie games don’t feature it. Not only that, but it’s a lot harder to test and debug than most things since it requires multiple consoles and players. Adding online multiplayer can easily add several months of extra development time.

I agree that online multiplayer is highly desirable with fighting games, but it’s understandable why they didn’t include it.

  10. downloading the trial right now. Too bad there is no online multiplayer. I probably won’t buy it simply because of this critical missing feature. ZP2KX has online multi so its not like its a hard thing to ask for in an indie game. I also hate when a great high score indie game like Decimation X3 releases with no global leaderboards. Come on guys these features are common sense and a necessity!
