  1. Played it for 2-3 hours and loved it. However, now I am also stuck at the ape queen : it seems I spent all my potions on the previous boss and now there is no shop for buying them πŸ™ . Please tell me I don’t have to start ll over again πŸ˜‰

  2. Bugs I found:

-I found a wall I could pass into in the ice cave and traverse the black zone between the walls and around the map, which was amusing.
-On the annoying end, the Astral Cave is worthless to travel to. There is one chest that simply doesn’t open on the 2nd floor. And the item I was supposed to get from the guarded chest doesn’t seem to be in my inventory (replayed and confirmed the “Master Hilt” does not appear in my inventory).
-Also, Dacre’s default weapon isn’t available as an option to be sold.

  3. I am loving this game so far. Congratulations on making a $3 game that has more value than most $60 games. The humor is great, the music rocks, and the graphics are great. What an awesome throwback to a now neglected genre.

Can’t wait to see what you guys have in store. Keep up the great work!

  4. Three dollars well spent, I’ve been looking forward to this gane for a long time now and it has not dissapointed. It is a lot more polished than Breath of Death, and I can see why it was such a pain to get it finished. The game is significantly more difficult than it’s BoD on hard mode. I always turn the difficulty up to hard for my first play through on any game, and unlike BoD hard is actually pretty difficult. I got myself killed for the first time in under 20 minutes.

Some of the things that impressed me right off the bat are the improved graphics such as the addition of spell animations, backgrounds in battle and cut scenes. I’m looking forward to getting to finally sit down and really play it weekend now that I have some spare time. I highly recomend this game to any fan of Breath of Death or old school console rpgs like the original final fantasy or dragon warrior series. It’s combat and character development system are fast paced, fun and well designed.

I’m curious, for anybody who has made it pretty far into the game… does Cthulhu fair best with a build that emphesizes physical or magical attacks and stats? I figured if he is anything like Dem, he is probably best leveled up as a fighter than a mage.

  5. …and I lost track of time tonight and at some point in the process of getting Sharpe to join me apparently rung in the New Year playing this. πŸ˜› I definitely agree with rekenner about the fights, at least on hard – you will die, and quite a lot, if you aren’t strategic in what you’re doing, at least until you’re sitting next to a restore point where you can just keep restoring your MP after every few fights until a given area is out of random encounters (and then you can of course stroll around at your leisure).

Definitely loving it so far just as I did BoD7. πŸ˜€

  6. Just wanted to say that I’ve been looking forward to Cthulhu Saves the World more than any big-name title this holiday season, and it does not disappoint πŸ™‚ I’m having a grand time with it, excellent work!

Also, I wanted to point out a bug I found. in Paws’s spaceship, on the third floor you can walk out the windows into space and go around the outside of the ship. I’m guessing this wasn’t intended πŸ˜›

  7. The game is great so far!

I’m only really commenting because I am utterly confused at the person that commented a few posts down, implying that FF games have a more complicated or involved battle system. I can’t remember the last time I had to think during a random battle in a Final Fantasy game, whereas Hard on this game requires thought, or you’ll die very quickly.

  8. Great game! Bought Death Of Breath and was really surprised at what great value it was! Was an instant purchase for me, gotta love a bit of Cthulu!
Great job, you are an inspiring bunch at making RPGs!

  9. Well worth the wait… everything screams quality and the difficulty feels just right. I loving the game and I not even done yet. Also thank you for putting in extras for us eagle eyed treasure hunters (9,999 gold indeed!).

Now back to the game πŸ˜€

  10. Loving this game so far and also loved Breath of Death. I do a have a request/question, though. Are you guys thinking of branching into more of a Final Fantasy gameplay style? Don’t get me wrong, BoD and CStW are both great, but if you made the battles a bit more complicated and involved, I’d love your games even more. Either way, thanks for the great game!

  11. Loving it so far. No surprise, of course. Have another person I’m trying to talk into getting it.

Man.. what an improvement on the towns…

  12. Bought it, haven’t played it yet, but it’s top of my list! And that’s saying a lot, since I got, uh, 7 other games for Christmas. You’re beating Call of Duty, Mario Galaxy 2, AND Kirby! Now I just need some free time…

  13. Glad to see that everyone appears to be enjoying the game!

If you find any bugs with the game, go ahead and just email me directly (rdespair at gmail dot com) so I can make sure we fix them with the first patch (which will probably come out next week).

Also, we might add a few things here and there in updates – I wanted to add some more jokes (on tombstones, bookshelves, etc.) and there was a remix mode we ended up cutting that I’d like to add in. Since the big Dream-Build-Play competition is coming up, maybe we’ll do a big update with new content before submitting CSTW for the event.

  14. I’m glad Xbox Marketplace added a way to buy games when you are away from your console, otherwise I’d have to wait till I get back in town. As it is, I have bought the game and look forward to playing it on my return.

Thanks for the post and the email!

  15. i think i found a GLITCH…the ice cave after Alhazred…i walked against a wall and i went straight through it.The wall is one of those middle map wall where it combines two pathways.

  16. Just beat it!

Great story, great game. And the secret boss was awesome!

    Just two things i noticed
-In the docks, you cant enter one building
-After you beat it, when you step on a portal, you automatically are sent to the main menu

    Good job!

  17. Just purchased Cthulhu Saves The World and I’ve got to say, its awesome!

Also, in news related to the Indie Games Winter Uprising, I just noticed a promotion link titled “Indie Games Winter Uprising” on the Spotlight Channel of Xbox Live (right next to the Deal of the Week)! Congrats on getting such a prominent position in the Xbox interface. Hopefully this will boost sales for you and all the other developers part of this event.

  18. Great fun, only two issues I’ve seen.

Umi’s Unite that is supposed to double her Str doesn’t work?
There is a treasure Chest in the Astral Cave 2 that can’t be opened.

I’m enjoying it so far, although I’m a little sad Cthulu isn’t the gamebest PC. Heck, I wanted to switch him out for a while before I got a hold of the Cursed Sword.

Thankyouthankyouthankyou for having the good sense to let non-active PC’s get exp. That is a major pet peeve because shafting all but 4 PC’s in an RPG is stupid. Good job avoiding it.

  19. I played through Breath of Death VII after a recommendation and as a long time player of RPGs in general (since before the NES came out) and of both major subtypes of RPGs (Western RPGs such as Elder Scrolls and jRPGs such as Final Fantasy). I thought it was pretty decent all things considered and felt it accomplished what I felt you wanted it to represent.

I purchased Cthulu Saves the World immediately and without any precondition. So far I am a few hours into the game and I find it is quite excellent and could almost call this the 4th best jRPG of this generation. It tells you how far off the correct path the industry has become. As a game it is nearly every way superior to your previous product (Breath of Death VII) and this pleases me greatly. Future games should ALWAYS be superior to previous works. Technological advances and process improvements should result in superior elements in future games. There is nothing wrong with using battle concepts that was proven to work and you did what should be done in taking an old and common battle element and tweaked it to make your own twist on the “Menu-Command Turn Based” combat system. Too many jRPGs today rely on cheap gimmicks and focus on trying to create new battle systems that ultimately prove to be inferior to older systems. I judge jRPGs on their story and characters and considering this is a parody game both the story and characters are pretty interesting so far. It may not have the graphics of many jRPGs today… but the mechanics WORK, the music is good, and the story and characters are interesting. These are elements of a quality jRPG. I judge this game to be quite good, and as I said… probably amongst the best this generation.

I said this on the TXB forums about this… and I am actively advocating this game to others…

Really… has it really come to this? That three western part time indie developers can make better jRPGs than pretty much nearly all of Japan’s biggest and most talented developers?

Here is hoping this game’s success will propell you and your team to the next level so you can make a fuller product on XBLA or even a full fledged production studio making retail games. May you continue to aspire to reach your dreams… for continued persistance will eventually result in you reaching those dreams you hold dear.

  20. I bought this as soon as I woke up and put the trailer on my facestalk. I know at least 2 friends who will buy it now that they know about it. I can’t wait to dive into it! Keep up the good work and the cheap price!

  21. Congrats on getting it out. Here’s hoping it does well enough in the first few days to get you onto fulltime development. It’s a great game.

  22. Buying my copy right now. Don’t even need to play the trial version based on the strength of BoD VII. With my bonus points I’m picking up Epic Dungeon too.

  23. Bought it this morning. I won’t be able to play it today, but when I get some free time, I know I won’t be able to put it down. This was my most anticipated game of 2010 no joke. Glad it made it before the New Year.

  24. This is a great game!

I’m telling everyone to buy it, i believe this is one of the best DOWN LOADABLE games I’ve played

O and if you can help me with the Ape Princess, any tips or anything because i”m stuck on her!

  25. Bought it and spread the word to four sites I visit. I’m having a blast, great job with everything and I wish you much success!
