Cthulhu Saves the World – Day 1

240 MS points
897 sales
1927 trials
Conversion Rate of 46.55%.

From what I’ve heard, Microsoft starts and ends days at 3:00 pm Pacific time which means that this data only covers about 9 hours.

It’s a far cry from my initial 10,000 sales goal, but that goal was made with the belief that Cthulhu Saves the World would come out with several weeks to spare, not 2 days before the end of the year. By all accounts, it’s a very strong start – that’s more copies sold in 9 hours than we have sold on any 1 day for Breath of Death VII! Plus Cthulhu Saves the World is $3 while BoDVII is only $1 so the revenue is over 3 times as much. In any case, it ought to be enough to get us the #1 top download spot when the dashboard updates.

Unless sales for the 31st are crazy, we’ll be sticking with part time development a bit longer, but if Cthulhu Saves the World sells consistently over a long period of time like Breath of Death VII did, then turning Zeboyd Games into a full time development studio in a few months is a strong possibility.

Thank you everyone for your support in buying our games and spreading the word! We couldn’t do it without you!

  1. I’m about 2 hours in and loving it so far. Looking forward to getting some free time this weekend to really dive in 🙂

  2. Brilliant game, but I’m stuck 🙂 Any chance of posting a guide for those of us unfortunate enough not to be gifted RPG players?

  3. Now that I’ve had the time to play the game some more, I must say it is a complete steal at 3 bucks. I’m actually playing it instead of a couple $50 games I picked up over the holidays which says a lot about how fun this game is. It would be neat if you added some downloadable content to it sometime further down the road for a buck or two that expanded the game with a high level side quest/dungeon. I think a lot of players would be more than happy to spend an extra dollar or two for an expansion.

  4. Saw this on X-Plays website, came here, listened to the Song.. bought the game.

Epic Win for you guys, I’ll be playing the fhtagn out of it later.

  5. Congratulations on another outstanding release. Please keep up the good work. The charm and polish in BoD and now CstW are incredible.

  6. Three bucks was a very good price point for this game. 240 ms points is pretty much the most that many people will pay for a game on a whim without thinking twice about it, yet it’s enough to provide a decent return on the serious time and effort that must have been put into a project like this. Personally, I would have still bought this particular title for $5 or more, since I am a fan from your previous game, but for the uninitiated 3 bucks won’t scare most new players off. I think your fan base will continue to grow with this game.

I have a ton of $1 indie games, a couple of $3s and only one that I was willing to pay $5 for. It just goes to show you how much of a difference pricing makes on an impulse buy which is what most indie game purchases are.

  7. I didn’t play Breath of Death (mostly because I never liked the Breath of Fire games), but I am loving CStW after about an hour of play. I’m going to spread the word to my gaming friends. I think this is the kind of title that will pick up steam and continue to sell. The title and elevator pitch are fun not only to hear but to deliver.

The fact that it’s a fun game which is well-written and makes intelligent design decisions (fast level-up, choice of reward for leveling, cap on random encounters) is almost icing.

I will of course go back and pick up your first game once I’ve beaten this as well. Thanks so much for scratching an itch I didn’t even know was there.

  8. I bought this day one to support you guys, but unfortunately I’m not at my home for the holidays, so I’m really looking forward to getting my 360 back and digging in. I loved BoD and I can’t wait to play this!

Keep up the good work man, and remember, we’re all in this together!

  9. I will be picking up the new game as soon as I get back to my xbox. I live in Japan at the moment and I am a big JRPG fan, but I must say I love your work. I hope you get all the sales you need. Looking forward to the next project.

  10. Hey great job on another amazing rpg, I hope you can someday do this full time but in the mean time it doesnt matter as long as you guys keep working and spiting out amazing games. When I played Breath of Death VII I really felt that it was more a $5 dollar game if not more so I’m glad you raised the price on this one, I feel like you guys really deserve the money and if I hve to hand over a few more dollars a game thats fine by me. Whats most important is that you recieve enough funds to keep doing what you are doing.

  11. Just got the five party memeber. BEST ally EVER!!!

I got 2 RPG’s I was excited for at christmas: Goldensun Dark dawn and Dragon Quest IX…Yet I have barely touched those and am addicted to Cthulhu. I love your take on game design and really love your RPG’s.

  12. Glad to hear the game is selling well. I’ll be doing my very small part for the Winter Uprising in the upcoming weeks. Feel free to drop by the site. I’ve actually got a thread going in the forum for the promotion.

  13. If that’s the case it’s over a sale a minute, good start!

It’s much more difficult to move XBL Indie Games for anything over a dollar too. People really hit the brakes when they see anything over 80 MS Points, but looks like a lot are driving right through that stop sign!

  14. As much as I like that absolute number of sales – what really catches my eye is the conversion rate (no not because of that funny typo). Getting almost every second gamer with a game, that probably a lot just downloaded because they browsed in with the promo, is incredible.
Your lifetime conversion rate will be better I guess and I don´t think that I have seen a $3 title do so well before. I don´t think I have seen a $3 title I was willing to recommend to everyone so easily too … so that fits.
Just wait til all the people that didn´t buy the game got the MSPs to buy it later. 🙂
