The fundraiser for the enhanced version of Cthulhu Saves the World is over and was an overwhelming success! The grand total was $6,898 – that’s over twice as much as our goal! Thank you, once again, everyone who contributed and helped to spread the word.

The enhanced version of Cthulhu Saves the World will be available as a free patch to all owners of the XBox 360 version, in addition to being the default PC version. Here’s what you have to look forward to:

Cthulhu’s Angels game mode with a new group of playable characters (some new, some modified), new plot & dialogue, new monsters, etc.
An option menu (controls, volume adjust, turn off battle music, and so on)
New harder difficulty
Unlockable Character bromides (art)
Director’s Commentary (question marks scattered through the game that you can examine for information about the game’s creation)
Monster compendium
Text for each monster
Additional dialogue and descriptions in maps (bookshelves, tombstones, etc.)
Extra Optional Superhard dungeon
Various bug fixes
Rebalanced many character abilities & monster stats

…and probably some stuff I forgot.

Our current goal for the enhanced version and PC release is the end of March. Wish us luck!

  1. Gongratulations. Its nice to see that the game was an success, both games are great. Hope there will be more classic RPGs from you in the future 🙂

  2. Hey — Dragon Warrior 3 and 4 included maps for the majority of the dungeons with the game. =P 4 had maps for all the dungeons in chapters 1-4 and the book for 3 had the map for every dungeon in the game.
That’s pretty sizeable documentation right there.

  3. I look at the lack of a mini map as a reason to explore. Honestly, the maps would be done way too quickly if you could just look at a mini map. But I am old school when it comes to rpg’s, so I am used to no maps at all save for the occasional printed world map of the old dragon warriors.

  4. Its a shame the minimap isn’t being added. I know it would take a lot more work than the other additions but it would be well worth it. The large and confusing maps are definitely the biggest problem with the game. It might not be hard for you guys since you have seen them at a glance beforehand and have the layout in your head, but for someone who has never played the game before it quickly gets repetitive and frustrating when you inevitably get lost. It was mostly the later dungeons that were the biggest offenders, but when people say they fought down the battle counter just so they could finally explore the dungeon thats a bad sign. They seem to be inspired by the early phantasy star games. You notice how after phantasy star 2 the dungeons started getting shorter and less maze-like? Thats because people generally don’t like the maze dungeons. Keeping a big maze layout in your head is really hard to do when you are constantly being interrupted by random battles. Thats why the dungeons in the more successful RPGs are pretty much linear with a few branches off every now and then. You almost never see a path branch off twice and certainly no maze-like designs. Thats just what people in general like the best.

Anyways, hope I’m not being too critical here. Its your game and you can do what you want. I love your games and will buy anything you release. I just think people in general would have more fun if they didn’t get lost as often.

  5. The fundraiser rewards will be sent out sometime in March. Would have done them sooner, except I’m busy getting ready for GDC (and then next week, I’ll actually be at GDC).

  6. Sounds damn coolie. I love me some flavor text. And those bromides! One of the reasons I pre-ordered Lunar: Silver Star Harmony, a game which…I still haven’t rightly played. 🙁

Ah well, this’ll be a banger! Still want to finish off Breath of Death before digging into this (and if you’re aiming for March, I may as well hold off, unless I want to play in “retro mode” for a while), and I’ve reached the castle part you mentioned in the postmortem. Yeah, I DEFINITELY see that difficulty others pointed out. Prolly shoulda bought some equipment for him before goin’ in.

  7. This all sounds awesome. I can’t wait for the release. 😀
Though. When will the spreadsheets that detail levelups and other such rewards be sent out?

  8. Will admit, I am really looking forward to beating this game a third time when this comes out, maybe a fourth if the harder difficulty and the angels mode are 2 separate modes. This is the first game I actually enjoyed starting from scratch to test higher difficulties on. Not sure why, but all those big flashy games just don’t really draw me back with their downloadabable content, while this has me anxiously waiting.

You folks are doing great work, you are earning fans who will stick with you for a long time to come if you decide to keep up the game making business. Good luck with the changes you all are aiming towards, really looking forward to that angels and super hard optional dungeon extra’s.

  9. Well done! I’m impressed by the features list, especially because I noticed many of them came directly from the solicited requests of fans. I look forward to playing the updated version, and when it comes out, I’ll be sure to tell all my friends to try it out. Being on PC will make it that much easier for me to promote, especially to my non-Xbox owning friends.

  10. Bought your game last week and beat it today.
So I went on google to see if I could find any more information on your company in the hope to leave some feedback/compliment/whine, but you saved me all the trouble by apparently reading my mind.

Love the game loads of charm and fun hope you make more.

//A compliment of sort, love from Sweden <3
