New Kickstarters

Bring Revolution 60 to PC & Mac – $5k raised ($5k goal). About 170 backers. 27 days left. Cinematic Choose Your Own Adventure/Dragon’s Lair kind of game inspired by stuff like Mass Effect, Heavy Rain, and Alpha Protocol. I really dislike the character designs but the game itself looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Crypt Run: Death is Just the Beginning – $5k raised ($5k goal). About 210 backers. 8 days left. Action/Roguelike reminiscent of The Binding of Isaac (which in turn is reminiscent of Zelda crossed with a dual-stick shooter). Cute, colorful visuals.

Insignificant – $3k raised ($1k goal). About 140 backers. 19 days left. 3D Action/RPG where you explore an open world as a really tiny person. A little rough around the corners, but I like how they’re taking realistic settings and making them mythical through the use of scope.

Dwarven Delve – $5k raised ($60k goal). About 150 backers. 26 days left. Action/Puzzle/Dungeon Crawl where you lead a group of dwarven heroes through a dungeon & utilize a tile rotation mechanism to modify the map to your benefit. Disclosure: the developer on this kickstarter worked on the mobile versions of two of our games (Cthulhu Saves the World & Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3) but is otherwise, not affiliated with us.

Crowdfunding Tip of the Week

Your kickstarter starts long before it actually goes live. You must build up hype for your kickstarter before it starts. The reason for this is that people have a tendency to judge kickstarters based on their initial performance so a weak start can make it difficult to reach your goal at all. You really need to have a bunch of people eagerly waiting for your kickstarter and ready to donate it on day 1 if you want to have the proper momentum. Be sure to start talking about the game publicly and engaging in PR efforts at least a month or two before the kickstarter begins.

  1. Thanks for the shout-out about our studio’s (Giant Spacekat) game “Revolution 60”. I do hope that the character designs grow on you (when I first saw the Simpsons I thought they were too bizarre for words, but then I got used to them). Same for Adventure Time. I should also note that the girl characters (tall and skinny) match the body type of the girl who designed them. That said, thanks for the kind words about our game anyway. And I hope you like the spaceships (which I did). Blam! Blam! Blam!

  2. I accidentally found out about Precinct from a tweet just after it went live. I like some of the planning that they had done for it, with the somewhat daily videos. I just wished they had promoted it better beforehand like you suggested and got people excited for it like I am with yours.

I’ve only seen AR-K come back from the type of deficit Precinct has now (relatively speaking,) getting 85% of it’s funding in its last two weeks. The difference is AR-K benefited from two high profile adventure games not getting funded before it closed (and was only $100K instead of $500K) by people moving their donations to there.

The PQ games were my second favorite of the Sierra games behind QFG. The emphasis on proper police procedure and the action (that was limited by the engine) is what separated from the others. Hopefully it makes it. If not, I’ll be there when they try again.
