Hey everyone! Bill Stiernberg / bill_at_zeboyd here for this week’s Art Column!
This week I decided to draw some Persona 4 art – Rise Kujikawa, and some fan art of Grasshopper Manufacture/Suda51’s upcoming game Killer is Dead.
See, I’m a big fighting game fan (love Arc Sys), and I’ve been playing Persona 4 Arena lately.
Since I have yet to play Persona4, I found all the characters in the fighter really cool and interesting. I like the look of many of them. So I decided to do some Persona 4 art first!
Rise is cheerful, outspoken, bubbly, and can be quite boastful. She used to be an idol but she quit to work at her family business (citing health reasons). She is stressed out, and tired of show business because she doesn’t know if the Rise that everyone admires is the ‘real’ Rise, or the persona of Risette that she presents to the masses.
So then I wanted to do more Persona 4 fan art, and I was thiiiiis close to drawing Yu Narukami because he’s the “leader” in Persona4 and he’s got an awesome sword.
Then I saw the new screenshots for Suda51’s new upcoming game, Killer is Dead. I’m a fairly big Suda51 fan; not all of his games are fantastically amazing, but I love his style and he consistently brings crazy unique stuff to the table. He’s most notable for No More Heroes 1 and 2 (Wii), Killer7 (GameCube, PS2), Shadows of the Damned (PS3,360), Sine Mora (PS3, 360, PC, Vita), and Lollipop Chainsaw (PS3, 360) but has several other games.
Since I was going to draw a man in a suit with a katana, and then I saw the new screenshots of this game, I decided to go with it:
Killer is Dead puts you in the bloody shoes of Mondo Zappa, a 35-year-old man suddenly recruited to the Brian Execution Firm. The firm — run by the retired, half-cyborg Brian Roses — sends Mondo around the world to kill other assassins. Mondo wakes up one day to find one of his hands has been embedded with an upgradeable gun.
The game is supposed to come out later this year. Mondo Zappa (awesome name, right?) is the main character. Cyborg assassin with katana. Love Suda51.
Hope you enjoyed this week’s art article! Let me know if you have requests and I might do ’em!
